Bridgestone India Private Limmited, (BSID, Managing Director- Mr. Hiromi Tanigawa) has announced that it will establish a new plant near Pune, Maharashtra. The plant will begin the production of passenger car radial tyres (PSR) and truck and bus radial tyres (TBR) in response to the growing demand of those tyres in India, which is seeing marked economic growth. The total investment is expected to be approximately JP\50 Billions i.e. approximately Rs. 2600 Crores in the phased manner. The PSR production is scheduled to begin in January 2013 and the TBR production in August 2013. By the year 2020 the production capacity is slated to reach 10,000 units of PSR and 3,000 units of TBR per day. BSID has reached an understanding with the Government of Maharashtra for acquiring approximately 770,000m of land at Chakan Industrial Area near Pune.

Tire demand in India is expected to grow significantly as automotive production and unit sales increase in step with the expansion of road infrastructure that is the results economic growth.

Production capacity is expected to reach approximately 400 units per day by the second half of 2012.

In India, TBR demand is expected to continue to grow due to the expansion of the expressways and other road infrastructure. This expansion of the road network is the result of economic growth in the nation as well as the introduction of higher-performance trucks. The Bridgestone Group will expand its operations at the Indore Plant, which currently manufactures passenger car and light truck tires, in order to produce the new TBR products.
